Description

Our High Alumina shelves are made from an alumina-mullite-cordierite mix fired to a high temperature in manufacturing. Unlike silicon carbide these shelves do not oxidize (form glass) at high temperatures so there is no potential for silica dripping from the shelf. This is especially important in wood fire applications where fly ash and other contaminants are present and contribute to dripping. In addition, these shelves have significantly lower expansion than silicon carbide or cordierite which means that they are less prone to thermal stress and to thermal shock cracking.
